United Group is thrilled to celebrate Michaela DiGiacomo, Director of Human Resources, for 15 years with the company!
Michaela started her career splitting her time between the Human Resources Department and the receptionist’s desk, quickly demonstrating her dedication and ability to support both people and operations. Her hard work and leadership earned her a promotion to Human Resources Manager, and in 2021, she took on her current role as Director of Human Resources.
Year after year, Michaela has consistently exceeded expectations, set ambitious goals, and inspired those around her to do the same. Her ability to connect with individuals at every level of the organization fosters a culture of collaboration and respect. Often serving as the “first touch” for new employees—from interviews through onboarding—Michaela plays a pivotal role in shaping their first impressions of United Group’s culture and values.
Thank you for everything you do, Michaela!

Questions:
1.) What about United Group keeps you coming back year after year?
Ultimately, what has kept me coming back to United Group for 15 years is that it never truly feels like work. I have always enjoyed what I do; it feels meaningful, I continue to be challenged and supported, and, most importantly, it’s the people I have had the chance to work with over the years.
2.) What memories have you cherished the most out of your 15 years with United Group?
The best moments have been when we’ve been able to celebrate together and support one another – whether it be a work anniversary, someone receiving a well-deserved promotion or award, getting behind a volunteer initiative, and of course, those special, personal milestones such as weddings, babies, or grandbabies! It’s been wonderful to see people go through all the phases of life and grow together along the way.
3.) In what ways have you seen the company grow and evolve?
It has evolved so much and continues to push forward every year! When I first started here, we operated in 3 states with around 175 employees. Fast forward to today, we’ve hit upwards of 270 employees and are operating in 8 different states across the country. Our HR Department has grown during my time from three team members to six! We have won national recognition as a Top Workplace and as Management Company of the Year. In addition to all of that, we’re also in the midst of relocating the home office to City Station North in downtown Troy, which has been so exciting to see this new development come to completion for the Company after so many years, and I think it will really kick off a new chapter for United Group.
4.) What advice would you give your first day of work self after working for United Group for the past 15 years?
In one of my early performance reviews, Joan Cavanaugh told me to “Get loud, lady!” and she was right. So, that would be my advice. Don’t be afraid; speak up when there is something to be said.
5.) What advice do you have for newer UGOC employees?
There is so much to learn here, so take advantage of every opportunity that you can to get involved or expand outside of what your primary role is – not only in your own department, but also by exposing yourself to other areas of the business. It contributes so much to making us better at our respective jobs, better team members to our coworkers, and to the overall success of the Company.
