Congratulations, Matthew!

Questions:

1.) Take us back to day one! What was it like? What do you remember about your first day?

Day one I was not sure what to expect. I could not believe how big the property was and felt very overwhelmed at first.

2.) Walk us through a typical workday!

A typical workday is me being busy flipping apartments. I come in and start cleaning the bathroom(s) in an apartment, then I will meet up with my co-worker Bill to take care of the clubhouse, coffee machine, and to empty the waste bins/restock any supplies as needed. I will check the work order bin for any new work orders and then head back to the apartment I am working in to start or continue with painting. Then I will usually get my work orders done sometime in the afternoon.

3.)What is your favorite memory (so far) from your time at UGOC?

My favorite is not so much a memory per se. I would have to say it's the work relationship that I have been able to create with my co-worker Bill. We work great together and have developed a relationship where we don't have to tell each other what to do next. We already can anticipate what is next and get jobs and work orders done efficiently.

4.) What advice would you give yourself reflecting on the last 5 years?

The advice I would give myself is nothing. I knew, however, that what I really needed to do over the course of 5 years was to learn, and that is what I did. I have learned so much thanks to Bill and also Tony and I am able to apply that knowledge to my work each and every day.

5.)How has your role changed over the years? (If at all possible)

A few months ago, our Maintenance Supervisor left and with that happening, both Bill and I stepped up to take on more of a leadership role. I have learned so much over the last 5 years and feel comfortable and competent now in making decisions to help improve the property.
