UGOC Spotlight: Tim Haskins Celebrates 20 Years

Celebrating 20 Years of Dedication and Achievement: Tim Haskins Remarkable Journey at United Group

Twenty years ago, Tim Haskins embarked on a journey with the United Group of Companies (UGOC)! As we commemorate Tim's 20th work anniversary, we reflect on the remarkable moments, growth, and memories that have defined his two-decade-long tenure with UGOC.

Already involved in one of Walter's projects, he seamlessly transitioned into the United Group fold. His initial interaction with Walter was a testament to the potential that Tim would come to fulfill. Walter's initial skepticism (see below) about utilizing Tim's skills soon evolved into a journey of growth, mutual respect, and impactful contributions.

Through the years, Tim's role evolved significantly. What began as temporary assistance in 2003 quickly transformed into a pivotal role in the development and management of some of UGOC's most ambitious projects. Tim has fully immersed himself in the intricacies of development and construction, playing a vital role in the realization of various projects that now grace UGOC's diverse portfolio.

Thank you, Tim, for all that you do and here’s to another 20 years!

What do you remember from your first day?

I really didn’t have a 1st day. I was working on another of Walter’s projects for a couple of years before coming over to the United Group.  I do remember Walter telling me that he did not have a use for my skills at United and that he would give me three months to find a job.

What have been the biggest changes in your life (personally and/or professionally) within the last 20 years?

I happened to meet my wife Tina at the same time I started at United so in the last 20 years we have gotten married, bought a house, celebrated the birth of our many grandchildren, and watched them grow.  I also have helped develop many beautiful properties and visited many beautiful places.

What are some of your favorite UGOC memories?

Flying down to Jacksonville Florida with Jim, Walter, and Tom to meet a contractor about building Hearthstone Village and then running back to the airport to fly home in front of an oncoming hurricane!  Brother Louis said we could make it and we did!

Exploring the land at Carriage Hill with Tom, Micheline, Tommy, and Dave. We used a four-wheeler and satellite photos to understand the landscape, I got stuck in my Isuzu Trooper and they had to bring a bulldozer to pull it out.

The Grand Opening at Sandalwood Village. It was so great to see what we accomplished and see it being enjoyed by the residents after so many years of working on the project.

Are you still in the same role? Walk us through your UGOC progression!

I came on board United temporarily in 2003 and I was working with Tom and Tommy on getting Wallkill finished and helping the onsite staff set up a maintenance department and hire staff.

Then Walter decided we were going to do Hearthstone Village and he kept me on to be the project manager.  Working with Tom, Walter, and Michael I learned the development and construction process and worked on developing many of the projects in United’s portfolio over the past 20 years.

What advice do you want to give yourself now, after working for the United Group for the past 20 years?

Spend every possible moment you can with Walter and Jim, celebrate the accomplishments, back up your files more often!
