UGOC Spotlight: United Group Recognizes July Work Anniversaries

United Group is proud to recognize work anniversaries for two outstanding members of our team during the month of July. Shannon Redden and Dan Wasserbach are celebrating their tenth and fifth year, respectively, with United Group.

After moving across the country, Shannon found a new home and a new career in Watertown, NY. She immediately felt welcomed into the United Group family and has worn many hats for the company ever since. Shannon’s leadership skills, hard work and dedication to her career was recognized at the 2018 Managers Retreat, where she was awarded “Manager Of The Year.”

Dan Wasserbach has been an invaluable property accountant for United Group for the past five years. His kindness, optimism, and sense of humor is contagious throughout the company’s corporate office. He’s quick to ask a colleague how they're doing and to “keep the chains moving.” You’ll always find Dan with a big and happy smile, even on a Monday after an ugly lose by the New York Giants.

Happy Work Anniversary, Shannon and Dan! United Group is so grateful for your work ethic, kindness and dedication to our company.

Name: Shannon Redden, ARM/COS

Office: Parkstead Watertown at City Center – Watertown, NY

Role: Property Manager

1.) What do you remember about your first day with the United Group?

I felt welcomed since my very first day. I interviewed with Joan Cavanaugh and Michael Uccellini and I couldn’t have been treated better and felt more comfortable. Moving from another state, across the country, that was very important to me. And that laugh Michael has, how can that not make you feel good!

2.) Are you in the same role? What has changed about your role?

I have had a couple of roles. I started as a property manager, had a turn as an area manager position, and now back to property manager. Like any property manager, I wear many, many hats.

My role has changed because times change, and we must change with them. We never advertised or did any social media when I first started, now it’s a huge part of our daily life.

3.) Tell us what an average day at the office looks like:

Average day at the office? Do those exist? Honestly, I try to plan ahead as much as possible. That is usually blown by mid-morning but coming in with a clear head and game-plan always make me feel better.

4.) What do you love most about the United Group?

I love my UGOC family. I love the loyalty they have shown me, and that is why I give it right back!

5.) What advice do you want to give yourself now, after working for the United Group during for past 10 years?

I guess just getting older, I tell myself to not sweat the small stuff. Hard work pays off, maybe not always at first, but eventually.

Name: Dan Wasserbach

Office: United Group Corporate Office – Troy, NY

Role: Property Accountant

1.) What do you remember about your first day with the United Group?

I had orientation my first day at UGOC. I met Joan and Michaela that day with two other new members of the accounting department. The orientation was very interesting and informing on the benefits, the history of the company and different projects that UGOC has and were developing at the time. We had lunch with the accounting department, and I got to meet my new coworkers.

2.) Are you in the same role? What has changed about your role?

I am still a property accountant, but my portfolio, other than The Greenwood in Lake Placid, is completely different. I started with some of the legacy properties that have since been sold. I now have two projects in Florida that are in lease-up, Diamond Rock Terrace I & II, Wallkill Living Center and Schaffer Heights. Each project has its own set of challenges, but the property managers at these sites are really good and help me with my work. Tracey is also an outstanding Controller, her door is always open and we work together on projects quite often.

3.) Tell us what an average day at the office looks like:

I don’t know if I have an average day anymore. It depends on the time of the month, what project that I work on that needs more focus.

4.) What do you love most about the United Group?

Professionally, I really like the work. It’s interesting, it’s challenging and it’s always changing.

Personally, I have made a lot of friends over the years here. I really enjoy the events like The Fair and the Friday of the Manager’s Retreat. I also have had the opportunity to attend some events outside of the office that I never had done before relating to work.

5.) What advice do you want to give yourself now, after working for the United Group during for past 5 years?

I would say myself to be patient, be ready to learn. I came to UGOC from a larger company in a different industry, that was a big change for me, but a good change. I would also tell myself that there are a lot of great people here that you are going to meet.
